The figures are estimates: according to public studies the CTR of position #1 is ~28%, and the combined Top-3 is ~55%. The competitor effect is an illustrative model (+12% difficulty per month), not a forecast.

How it is calculated

The logic is simple and transparent: CTR turns the niche's monthly searches into visitors, the conversion rate turns visitors into purchases, and purchases multiplied by the average order value give the monthly revenue that currently goes to someone else.

Visitors = searches × CTR
Purchases = visitors × conversion rate
Loss / month = purchases × average order value
Total loss = loss / month × months of waiting

Methodology and frequently asked questions

The free and fast way is Google Suggestions - type your niche's main word into the search box and the drop-down list will show you directly how people phrase their searches. This list requires no tool at all and is constantly updated.

Once you have collected 20-30 phrases, move them into Google Keyword Planner - it will assign a monthly volume to each one. The total number you get is exactly the "monthly searches" figure to put into the calculator's first slider.
